Literacy West Nipissing

Our Story

Literacy West Nipissing is a non for profit, charitable entity based the West Nipissing community, dedicated to offering literacy skills development and tailored programs to reach the unique needs of each learner. We are committed to delivering superior one on one or group learning experiences built on learner satisfaction and respect.

Since 1991, Literacy West Nipissing, has played an active role in adult education in the West Nipissing area. Operating as a non for profit, the organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is primarily funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. A small but dedicated staff oversees the daily operations, coordinates programming, and supports learners across the region.

What is literacy?

Literacy is about the ability to think, to communicate, to problem solve, to continually learn and the use technology.

The International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS) defines literacy as “the ability to understand and employ printed information in daily activities at home, at work, and in the community – to achieve one’s goals and to develop one’s knowledge and potential.”
